About
Neil Stroup Architect LLC is a Philadelphia-based practice creating architecture for academic and residential clients who are committed to lasting, sustainable, and authentic buildings. We bring experience working on projects across the country, from private homes to complex research and government buildings. With our background working at some of the country’s most forward-thinking firms, we combine the expertise and technical skill of a large firm with the hands-on, personal approach of a small design studio.
In our work we strive for a deep understanding of our clients' needs and each project's context — architecturally, environmentally and culturally. We rely on careful listening, collaboration, and constant curiosity to craft architecture that is thoughtfully considered and true to people and place.
Leadership
With nearly 20 years of experience as an architect, Neil Stroup has designed and delivered a variety of award-winning cultural, educational, and institutional buildings in North America. Neil brings constant curiosity to his work and a commitment to innovation and environmental stewardship, firmly rooted in a sense of place.
Prior to founding his practice, Neil was an associate at the internationally-recognized firm KieranTimberlake. While there, he led the design of a 160,000 square foot life sciences research building for the University of Toronto Mississauga, integrating the needs of multiple stakeholders and complex laboratory requirements, while carefully knitting the building into an existing heritage-listed structure.
His work also includes the Foreign Affairs Security Training Center in Blackstone, Virginia. With multiple structures spread over a 1,300 acre site, the project demanded design thinking at all scales, from campus planning and circulation to building envelope and interior details. At the new United States Embassy in London, he was an architect of the building's innovative envelope, which is both highly sustainable and meets the client's rigorous security requirements.
Neil is a licensed architect in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, a member of the American Institute of Architects, and a LEED accredited professional. As part of his practice, Neil has taught architectural design studios, lectured, and has been a visiting design critic at universities in Philadelphia and Boston.
