Williams College Chapin Hall Renovations
Tuning a historic lecture and music hall.
As a Project Architect at Ann Beha Architects, now Annum Architects, Neil led a comprehensive masterplan and renovation effort for Chapin Hall, a landmark building and the largest gathering space on the Williams College campus. Designed in 1910 by Cram, Goodhue & Ferguson, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the principal rehearsal and performance space for the College’s Department of Music.
The masterplan and renovation addressed a range of issues including accessibility, acoustics, seating, sightlines, lighting, stage configurations, and updates to the building’s outdated mechanical systems. The masterplan described multiple options and phasing strategies, allowing the College continued use of the building as work progressed.
